SEDIT: A UNIX and Windows Editor that Emulates Mainframe XEDIT and PDF Editors

The differences between the mainframe and the UNIX and Windows platforms are significant. None of the familiar mainframe tools exist on UNIX and Windows. It takes time to learn the operating system differences, programming differences, etc. This steep learning curve can be frustrating, especially to productive, experienced mainframe users. Fortunately, SEDIT can help reduce the learning curve.

SEDIT is XEDIT/PDF on UNIX and Windows

SEDIT is a UNIX and Windows editor that emulates the mainframe XEDIT and PDF editors. All of the familiar editing commands you use on the mainframe are now on UNIX and Windows. In this familiar editing environment, you can be productive almost immediately.

SEDIT Does More Than XEDIT/PDF

SEDIT provides many features not included in XEDIT/PDF, which take advantage of UNIX facilities, including:

  • Cuts, copies, and pastes text between one or more documents
  • Copies or moves rectangular blocks of text
  • Views and edits UNIX directories through a graphical Tree Utility
  • Supports "dumb" ASCII terminals
  • Uses shortened directory names
  • Searches and replaces FORTRAN and C variables
  • Supports compilers, positioning the cursor on lines of code that generated compiler errors
  • Interacts with CenterLine Software's CodeCenter
  • Gives a scrollable interface to the UNIX "man" command
  • Supports external macros coded in any language
  • Interfaces with S/REXX (a REXX-compatible language for UNIX)
  • Responds to socket commands sent by other applications
  • Offers unlimited UNDO function
  • Browses UNIX directories using an FLIST-like full-screen display
  • Includes complete on-line help
  • Checks spelling
  • Recalls previous commands
  • Autosaves changes
  • Uses syntax coloring

SEDIT helps you to quickly become more productive on the UNIX platform.
