An Introduction to Treehouse Software, Inc.

Since its establishment in 1982, Treehouse Software, Inc. (TSI) has gained an excellent reputation as a leader in systems software development and marketing, with approximately 700 customers in the U.S. and many foreign countries. In addition, TSI provides training and consulting services and maintains a support system for customers worldwide.

Company Focus

TSI develops and markets system software products and offers consulting services primarily related to Software AG's base products. Software AG of Germany is a worldwide distributor of database management systems and other computer software predominantly for large mainframe systems.

Traditionally, TSI has focused on software that was complementary to the Software AG mainframe product line (ADABAS database management system and NATURAL programming language) in the areas of security, control, auditing, performance enhancement, etc.

The primary TSI focus today is new software and services that enable not only Software AG customers, but any mainframe site to leverage their investment in legacy systems with data integration, data warehousing, data distribution and conversion, and other new technologies.

The Market

The TSI market is 3000 organizations worldwide, 600 in North America, utilizing ADABAS and NATURAL.

Many Software AG sites already use Microsoft SQL Server, ORACLE, DB2, or another RDBMS somewhere in their IT processing. They are increasingly expressing the desire to automatically and efficiently disseminate selected ADABAS data to these RDBMSs for the purpose of data distribution, warehousing, or conversion. TSI's Data Transfer Products accomplish this process faster (one month versus five years or more), cheaper ($150,000 versus $10,000,000 or more), and better than any alternative.

The Business Intelligence (BI) Branch of Treehouse

Telemetree Systems was established in 2006 as the emerging technologies branch of TSI and offers software and services in areas such as BI, enterprise reporting, data mining, and data visualization. Telemetree Systems provides innovative solutions that allow businesses to analyze and interpret data—transforming data into knowledge.

The initial offering from Telemetree Systems is the Cubeware Analysis System. Cubeware allows business users to gain a complete picture of business operations—on demand.

Sales and Marketing

Marketing in North America is handled through the TSI corporate headquarters. This is accomplished through direct mail; telemarketing; personal visits and demonstrations; on-line remote demonstrations; attendance at conferences, trade shows, and regional user group meetings; advertisements; technical articles in trade journals; and the TSI newsletter, Treetimes, which has a hard copy circulation of 8,000 and can also be viewed on-line.

Customer Service

Customers rate TSI’s technical support as an excellent and highly responsive service. TSI has recently expanded this service by offering direct technical support for European customers who are not currently supported by our affiliates. These customers can now rely on TSI’s highly skilled European Technical Support Specialist working out of Germany.

TSI provides support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Customers can speak directly to our attentive support staff during our regular business hours and have access to up-to-date support information on the TSI Web site’s on-line support center. The support staff can also be reached by e-mail and fax (412-741-7245). During off hours, TSI maintains a telephone answering service. TSI representatives are continuously "on call" to ensure that customers receive answers to their questions and solutions to their problems as quickly as possible.

Opportunities for Partners

Click here to view the TSI Partner page.

The opportunities related to the TSI Data Migration Products differ for each potential partner.

A consulting company would benefit by having this data transfer solution as part of any ADABAS application conversion. Contracts for application conversion can be obtained easier, aggressive pricing can be used, conversion tasks will take less time and/or fewer people, and profits can increase by possessing ADABAS Data Migration tools that the competitors possibly do not have. The consulting company's relationship with Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, and other RDBMS vendors can easily be enhanced.

An RDBMS vendor would benefit by having the ability to transfer ADABAS data to its RDBMS, and possibly limit this to only its RDBMS. Examples include Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, and several others. The vendor could win potentially thousands of new licenses for their software at the expense of the other competing RDBMS vendors. In addition, related consulting from the vendor could be provided at significant profit, and sales of the vendor's other software (i.e., applications) would increase.

A systems software company would benefit by having this data transfer capability, possibly to add to its own similar offerings. Examples include BMC, Computer Associates, SAP, Informatica, and several others.

Software AG automatically benefits with the retention of very large customers who would otherwise relocate to other database systems without the ability to do ADABAS data transfer, propagation, warehousing, etc.
