IBM Mainframe Integration Through Change Data Capture

The globalization of markets, the increase of data volumes, 24x7 operations, changing business conditions and high demand for up-to-date information require new data transfer and exchange solutions for heterogeneous IT architectures.

The tcVISION solution focuses on changed data when transferring information between mainframe and workstations or open systems.

tcVISION is an innovative technology that offers comprehensive abilities to identify and capture changes occurring in mainframe databases and to publish these required information to a variety of targets.

The tcVISION Solution

  • tcVISION change capture facilities identify changes in mainframe data sources without programming effort.
  • tcVISION transfers the changed data to target databases and applications in real time, in time intervals or in response to events.
  • tcVISION guarantees transparent and auditable data transfer between sources and targets.
  • tcVISION provides powerful processors to perform fast, efficient and reliable transfers of mass data
  • tcVISION can deliver drastic savings for all mainframe-related data exchange operations. Change Data Capture reduces costs: less processing time, less hardware and less human resources are needed for exchange of information.
  • tcVISION reduces the amount of data that must be transferred between the different systems to an absolute minimum. Only data that has been changed is transferred--only data that is really needed will be moved.

tcVISION – Technology

tcVISION considerably simplifies mainframe data exchange processes. The structure of the existing mainframe data is analyzed by tcVISION processors. The data mapping information is presented in a user-friendly and transparent format – even for users with no mainframe knowledge.

The structure information is saved in a meta data repository. The Windows-based Control Board of tcVISION provides an easy-to-use facility to administer the data flow. tcVISION provides a variety of interfaces to allow seamless integration with ETL or EAI solutions.

tcVISION offers different CDC methods to identify mainframe data. The change capture method deployed depends on the source database (DB2, VSAM, DL/1, IMS/DB, ADABAS, IDMS/DB, DATACOM/DB), the data volume, the volume of changed data and the required currency of the information. Changes are automatically transferred to the targets in time intervals or in real time by tcVISION data change publishing facilities.

tcVISION Change Publishing

tcVISION converts the captured changes to a format compatible with the target system. A target database can reside on a workstation or on an open systems or Windows server (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, etc.)--or another mainframe database (e.g., DL/1 -> DB2).

tcVISION – Benefits

  • Significant ease and faster data transfer between mainframe and open systems or workstations.
  • High efficiency for data distribution across system borders, because only changed data is transferred.
  • Highest possible currency of information used in decision making or ETL processes.
  • Real-time data synchronization without programming effort.
  • Quick implementation of CDC technology reduces time-to-market for new business requirements.
  • Open platform for the implementation of new technologies.
  • No programming required--this enables shorter project cycles for data migration and for all kinds of ETL processes.
  • Project autonomy for ETL processes because mainframe data can be integrated without mainframe knowledge.
